The University of Kisubi (UniK) is chartered by the National Council for Higher Education. The University is seeking to employ competent people to fill the following vacant positions in its licenced School of Nursing and Midwifery.
The Nurse Tutor at the University of Kisubi School of Nursing and Midwifery will be responsible for training and mentoring nursing students. He/she will deliver educational programs, provide clinical instruction, assess student progress, and ensure that nursing trainees meet professional standards. The Nurse Tutor at the University of Kisubi will bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing students for clinical practice and exams. Strong communication, leadership, and teaching skills are essential for this role.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Preparing lectures/lesson plans teaching materials, and assessment tools on a monthly and weekly basis.
- Conducting lessons and clinical sessions according to the set timetable.
- Participating in setting and marking internal and external classroom and clinical examinations.
- Carrying out continuous assessment and evaluation of students during classroom and clinical training and providing feedback in a timely manner.
- Set and mark examinations and practical assessments and submit results promptly.
- Assessing students’ practical competencies and ensuring they meet professional standards.
- Maintaining student records and preparing progress reports.
- Planning and preparing academic programmes/work plans and supportive budgets.
- Advising on the purchase and usage of clinical equipment and instructional materials.
- Participating in student admissions and orientation programs.
- Participating in general staff meetings, panel, departmental and committee meetings and contribute to academic policies.
- Participating in the relevant sector reform activities.
- Providing guidance, counselling, and mentorship to students.
- Being responsible for trainees’ academic and social affairs.
- Participating in the preparation of the institutional budget.
- Ensuring adherence to guidelines set by the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC) and the Ministry of Education.
- Promoting patient safety and best nursing practices.
- Carrying out any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Nursing with a Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Education or Bachelor of Medical Education with a Practicing License for Tutorship from the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council
- A Diploma in Nursing
- Certificate of Registration from the Ministry of Education and Sports
- At least two (2) years of working experience in health teaching in a reputable organisation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in nursing and midwifery education, healthcare policies, and regulations.
- Fully registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council and holding a valid practising license.
- Excellent computer skills.
The Midwifery Tutor will be a specialized educator to train and mentor midwifery students, ensuring they gain the knowledge and skills needed for safe and effective maternal care. The Midwifery Tutor will be responsible for delivering lectures/lessons, providing hands-on clinical training, and assessing student competencies. Working in collaboration with other tutors, the Midwifery Tutor will bridge theory and practice, preparing students for midwifery certification and professional practice. Strong teaching, clinical, and mentorship skills are essential for this role.

The Clinical Instructor shall be responsible for training and mentoring nursing students. He/she will deliver educational programs, provide clinical instruction, assess student progress, and ensure that nursing trainees meet professional standards. Duties and Responsibilities
- Planning, preparing and organising materials for practical training sessions.
- Performing clinical teaching in the Skills Lab and on the Ward.
- Conducting tutorials and practical training, according to the set timetable.
- Participating in continuous assessment and evaluation of students’ practical performance.
- Participating in curriculum planning and development.
- Managing the Skills Lab and overseeing the activities that take place in the Lab.
- Keeping an up-to-date inventory of the Skills Lab items to be verified by the Supervisor every month.
- Keeping and maintaining accurate student and class records.
- Attending general staff meetings, departmental and committee meetings.
- Guiding, counselling and mentoring students.
- Participating in the students’ co-curricular activities and health-related community activities.
- Supervising students during practical and fieldwork studies.
- Carrying out support supervision of students while on placement.
- Coaching and supervising students on logbook filling during placement.
- Ensuring that Logbooks are signed by the mentors and PNO before the students leave the placement sites.
- Carrying out any other duties as may be assigned to you by the University’s relevant authorities.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- A Diploma in Nursing, with a Diploma in Clinical Teaching or Mentorship.
- At least two (2) years of working experience in the same role in a reputable health organisation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in nursing and midwifery education, healthcare policies, and regulations.
- Fully registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council and holding a valid practising license.
- Excellent computer skills.

The Female Warden will be responsible for ensuring student welfare, discipline, and a safe living environment, particularly in the hostels. She will oversee accommodation facilities, enforce rules, provide counselling, and support students’ academic and personal development. Additionally, she will coordinate with tutors, School and University administration, manage health and emergency protocols in consultation with the University Nurse, and foster a positive and professional atmosphere for future nurses and midwives. To deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is needed.

- Student Welfare and Support
- Overseeing and taking a lead role in welcoming the students within the Hall of Residence to ensure that all new students are checked in and greeted on or soon after arrival.
- Participating in the orientation of the new students.
- Ensuring a safe and conducive environment for students.
- Providing counselling and support for students regarding their academic, personal, or emotional well-being.
- Addressing concerns related to the health, hygiene, and personal safety of students.
- Encouraging a healthy balance between academics, extracurricular activities, and personal well-being.
- Hostel and Facility Management
- Overseeing the nursing students’ hostel facilities, ensuring cleanliness, maintenance, and security.
- Enforcing rules and regulations related to the nursing students’ hostel life.
- Monitoring food quality and dietary needs of the students.
- Coordinating with the Estates Manager to ensure repairs and upkeep of hostel infrastructure.
- Discipline and Conduct
- Ensuring strict adherence to the School’s code of conduct.
- Addressing disciplinary issues and resolving conflicts among students.
- Implementing anti-bullying policies and promoting a harmonious living environment.
- Conducting regular inspections, surprise checks in the halls of residence and roll calls to ensure compliance with rules.
- Academic and Professional Development and Extracurricular Activities
- Supporting students in time management and academic discipline.
- Encouraging participation in nursing and midwifery-related events, seminars, and workshops.
- Assisting in the students’ mentorship programme, organising career guidance meetings and workshops for students in their professional journey.
- Organising cultural, sports, and recreational activities to promote student engagement.
- .Coordination with Tutors and Administration of the School
- Acting as a liaison between students and faculty/administration.
- Reporting student grievances to the appropriate authorities.
- Ensuring compliance with the University and School policies related to nursing and midwifery education.
- Referring students, when appropriate, to the Dean of Students for support and additional services.
- Health and Emergency Management
- Ensuring access to first-aid and medical assistance in case of emergencies.
- Coordinating with the University Nurse and Dean of Students for regular students’ health check-ups.
- Managing health-related protocols when necessary, in consultation with the Dean of Students and University Nurse.
- Carrying out any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications
- A minimum of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE)
- Certificate or Diploma in Education is an added advantage.
- Additional training or certification in either Hospitality and/or Guidance and Counselling.
- At least three (3) years of working experience in a similar position in a reputable health or education institution.

- Knowledge of key student support services and an awareness of the role of a warden.
- Awareness of when issues should be handled through counselling or considered under the School’s disciplinary procedures for students.
